Tourist tax in Karelia will provide new opportunities for the local budget

This year, Karelia expects significant revenues from the tourist tax, which could amount to more than 48 million rubles. This was reported by the head of the Ministry of Economic Development of the Republic, Oleg Ermolaev. These funds will be directed to the local budget and will help resolve many local issues.

The tourist tax was introduced in Karelia on January 1 of this year, and its rates will gradually increase: this year they will not exceed 1%, in 2026 - 2%, in 2027 - 3%, in 2028 - 4%, and starting in 2029 - 5% of the tax base. This will not only increase budget revenues, but also create additional opportunities for the development of tourism infrastructure. A tourist tax is levied in many European countries popular with tourists, as well as in many large Russian cities. It is important to note that the tax will not affect certain categories of citizens, such as veterans, people with disabilities, participants in a special military operation and residents of the republic. This decision is aimed at supporting those who need special attention.
