Fast food puts children at risk: Those habits that increase the risk of obesity

Your child’s eating speed and chewing habits can be critical to weight problems. According to research conducted by Osaka University in Japan, children who do not chew their food enough and eat quickly are at a significantly higher risk of obesity . Children who eat with their mouths full are particularly likely to gain weight.
The study examined approximately 1,400 children aged 9-10. The results revealed that children with poor chewing habits were 1.5 times more likely to be obese, while children who ate quickly were almost twice as likely. This tendency was more pronounced in boys. A total of 167 children were classified as obese in the study. Experts say that eating quickly makes it difficult to control appetite and leads to more calorie intake. Conscious guidance is recommended for parents to slow down the pace of children's eating and to chew food thoroughly.
