Daily electricity consumption hits record high due to extreme heat

According to updated data from the Turkish Electricity Transmission Corporation (TEK), 1,217,882 megawatt-hours of electricity were produced on a daily basis yesterday, while consumption was recorded at 1,211,289 megawatt-hours. This consumption was the highest level ever recorded on a daily basis.
Increased air conditioning use and agricultural irrigation, coupled with rising temperatures nationwide, contributed to the peak in electricity consumption. The previous peak was recorded on July 23, 2024, at 1,208,706 megawatt-hours.
Yesterday, the highest electricity consumption occurred at 15:00 with 57,802 megawatt-hours, while the lowest consumption occurred at 07:00 with 38,936 megawatt-hours.
Natural gas power plants led the way with a 29.3 percent share of electricity generation, followed by imported coal-fired power plants with 19.2 percent and hydroelectric dam plants with 16.1 percent.
Yesterday, Türkiye exported 15,496 megawatt-hours of electricity and imported 8,903 megawatt-hours.
