Trump signs deal with Google for use of artificial intelligence

The Trump administration's agreement with Google aims to increase federal government efficiency. It falls under the OneGov procurement initiative.
It gives US government agencies access to Google's AI tools, specifically its newly developed Gemini for Government platform. These tools are available for as little as $0.47 per agency and will run through 2026. This is a continuation of a previous agreement that offered Google Workspace to federal agencies at a 71% discount.
"They Will Make Their Processes More Technology-Focused and Autonomous"
Google's Gemini for Government platform offers a hyper-secure AI solution for US employees. Designed to the highest FedRAMP standards, this platform stands out with features such as AI-powered searches, image and video generation, NotebookLM integration, and customizable AI agents.
With this deal, Google aims to transform government operations and allow employees to focus on higher-value tasks.
"Some organizations will immediately deploy these tools in obvious use cases, such as help desks or call centers. Over time, they will make their processes more technology-driven and autonomous," Gruenbaum said, emphasizing the importance of gradual adoption of AI.
Trump's American Artificial Intelligence (AI) Action Plan
The agreement is part of the Trump administration's "America's Artificial Intelligence (AI) Action Plan," announced in July 2025. This plan is based on three pillars: centering American workers, purifying AI from ideological bias, and protecting US technologies. In a speech, Trump criticized the former Biden administration for restricting AI innovation, saying, "If you over-regulate AI, you will kill American ingenuity and technological strength."
Additionally, GSA previously agreed to offer OpenAI's ChatGPT Enterprise platform to federal agencies for a nominal fee of $1. This new agreement with Google, along with other AI providers like Anthropic and OpenAI, strengthens the federal government's efforts to expand AI technologies.
The Trump administration sees AI as a strategic tool to increase the efficiency of the federal workforce and offset staffing shortages. “AI will automate manual and repetitive tasks, enabling workers to make faster and more effective decisions,” said Federal Chief Information Officer Gregory Barbaccia.
What is Gemini for Government?
Google has developed a platform specifically for public institutions called Gemini for Government. The platform will be offered to government agencies for just $0.50 per year.
